J. Barton Riley, CFA
Managing Partner and Founder
Jay has been in the investment business for over forty years. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School (BS, Economics) in 1970, Jay joined Kidder, Peabody & Co. in Philadelphia. In 1984, Jay began a twenty-year affiliation with Alex Brown & Sons (and its successor firms). For the last thirteen years at Alex Brown, Jay was privileged to serve on the firm’s Investment Committee.  This committee working with the firm’s Research Department had a remarkable record of out-performance (versus general market indices.  A brief affiliation with Legg Mason & Co. ended after the firm sold its brokerage subsidiary to Citibank Smith Barney.  Having long dreamt of opening a small investment advisory firm for years, Jay opened Barton Investment Management in July of 2006.

Jay’s professional activities include his having served as a director and President of the CFA Society of Philadelphia. Jay has taught seminars sponsored by Kidder Peabody, Alex Brown, and the CFA Society of Philadelphia. Jay is a lifelong resident of the Philadelphia area. For the past twenty-nine years, he and his wife Gretchen have lived in Haverford, Pennsylvania. Together they have three adult children.  Jay currently serves as the Vice President of the board of the Ludington Library in Bryn Mawr.  He has recently begun work as the Treasurer of the Lower Merion Library Foundation.  In the recent past, Jay was the Board Chair of the Philadelphia area branch of the Salvation Army, and he remains on the board.  He also serves on the Church Foundation board of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania.

H. Barton Riley, CFA
Bart co-founded Barton Investment Management in June 2006. Prior to joining the firm Bart spent five years as a history instructor, including the final four years at Darrow School in New Lebanon, NY. In addition to teaching, he served first as Assistant Dean of Students, and then later as Assistant Dean of Studies. Currently, Bart serves on Darrow School's Board of Trustees. At Barton, Bart works with Jay on fundamental investment research and analysis of current holding and possible new investment ideas. Bart graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and is a CFA charterholder.

Peter Shouvlin
Peter Shouvlin joined Barton Investment Management in March 2017 bringing with him 32 years of experience in the financial services industry. He began his career at Bankers Trust in 1984, initially serving as a credit analyst, and later transitioning to the investment industry in 1993. Peter has focused on the technology sector as a sell side Institutional Sales Representative and as a buy-side analyst. He graduated from Lehigh University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance, and he received an MBA with a concentration in Finance from the University of Chicago. Peter and his wife, Kathy, have five children and reside in Connecticut.

Clare Maloney
Clare joined Barton Investment Management in January 2012. Clare began her career in the investment field in 1985 when she joined Dean Witter. After a brief stop at Kidder Peabody in 1989, Clare moved to Alex Brown where she worked from 1989 thru 1994. In 1994 she moved to Florida with her family, where she worked from 1994 thru 2007 for Dean Witter, and its successor firms. At Dean Witter she served in various capacities including Registered Sales Assistant, Producing Branch Manager Assistant and Junior Partner of an investment team. From 2007 thru 2012, Clare focused being a mother to her young daughter. In 2011, Clare and her family moved back to the Philadelphia area, allowing her to join the Barton team at the start of 2012. At Barton, Clare is in charge of Operations and Client Management.

Janna M. Forte
Janna joined Barton Investment Management in September 2016. Janna has worked in the investment industry since 1992 when she began her career at SEI Investments. She also spent eight years at Pilgrim Baxter & Associates, followed by Turner Investment Partners and Hirtle Callaghan and Co. During most of her 20-year career, she has specialized in institutional client service, building relationships and providing support to key clients. At Barton, Janna is focused on compliance, client communications, and the firm's marketing and business development efforts. She lives in Wayne with her husband and three children. Janna graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Italian from the University of Notre Dame. She also holds the FINRA Series 65 license. Janna served as the first female president of the Notre Dame Alumni Club of Philadelphia. Following her two-year term, she was awarded the Clifford E. Prodehl Person of the Year award.
